The Carl Hansen Extendable SH900 Dining Table was designed by Christina Strand and Niels Hvass. They produced a highly functional table in classic Danish style, with organic components and solid wood structure.

The unique extenstion mechanism allows room for four additional settings, and hides neatly within the table when not in use. With this extension table you get a regular size dining table (190cm) with no split lines down the middle or obtrusive legs, and when you need the additional settings then just pull back on the table end and fold out the extension leaves. When fully extended, there are no obtrusive legs; this clever Danish engineering design will suit the largest of family gatherings.

The original design incorporated contrasting elements; black glass extension leaves with solid timber. This is a nod to the modern architectural concept of highlighting rather than blending building extensions. Although our tables are comprised of a timber element only, the construction and strategic use of the natural wood grain mirrors this ethos. The extension piece fits snugly under the table top when not in use, and does not interfere in any way with normal dining.
